Genesis Minimum Pro Theme – Getting Started
The Minimum Pro theme has been released at StudioPress. It is now HTML5 compliant and had a bit of a facelift. This theme makes use of a few different items than other themes, such as a technique called Backstretch on the big image on the front page, as well as a two-widget combo with a special plugin to get those nice big social media circles on the home page too.
Here’s a video tutorial to help you get started with building this theme out like the demo. I’ll take you step-by-step through the whole process, along with tips and tricks for other things you can do with this theme.

Hi MaAnna, and thanks for such a great tutorial. I’m having an issue with the primary navigation. In the theme I downloaded, the primary nav was actually set to live below the bg image, instead of above it in the header. I wanted it to be just like the demo, so I utilized the header widget area to add the menu there.
Unfortunately, it (the menu) is now not responsive because it it no longer using the primary menu, and is using a custom menu, instead. Any ideas as to how I can make that responsive now?
Hi Pam. You will probably want to check with the super forum on StudioPress for this. I believe they still section it out per theme. And, there’s a rather active Genesis Framework Community on G+ too.
Hi Pam, I’ve noticed the same thing with the menu placement on many of the upgraded themes. Seems like the primary and secondary are backwards of each other. You’ll want to visit the forum to get an answer for making the new menu in the header responsive. They’re great about answering the support tickets and such there too.
Funny thing… I was actually just missing a closing bracket in my CSS, and it solved the problem. But you are still right about this. I have gone to the Studiopress site and gone through several of the tutorials for setting up the different themes, and they have been extremely helpful. Thanks, MaAnna!
Hi MaAnna,
While I’m not really ready to upgrade to Genesis yet, I’ve been reading quite a bit about it. It seems like a very friendly theme.
Do you find it an easy theme for people who not that tech savy to use? Right now I’m using Woo Themes for my site, but eventually I will be switching to something different.
I’ve had my eye on Genesis because I like what I see. Thanks for this info, I may have to upgrade sooner than later.
Susan, Genesis is about way more than what you can see on the front end. It fully supports HTML5 and microdata. In my opinion, it’s pointless now to change to any theme that does not. Like most other premium themes, the home page runs on widgets. And, there are several features built in that most other themes require special plugins for. And, of course, there are plugins that are made specifically for Genesis.
It would definitely be worth your while to consider one of my packages that let’s you try up to three Genesis themes in a private sandbox, and comes with the full Genesis video library.
One theme will out perform another, depending on what it is you need to accomplish. Colors and styles are simple for designers to change.
If you’re going to have a site, it’s worth learning how a theme works for you to support your efforts and become a 24 hr sales person for you.
Genesis can help you do that, but it also takes knowing how to harness that power.
MaAnna,
I want to remove the blog posts from the front page but can only limit it to one in the Settings:Reading area. Is there another way to go about doing this?
Thank you for this video! It was an awesome help!

Ryan, it would take revamping the code for the widget areas on the home page, I believe.
Do you know how to have an image show up on the front page for the blog section ? The feautured image doesnt seem to work for minmum pro
Matthew, your best bet for tricks around that will be the Genesis community boards. They are very active and theme specific.
