What the Halt of SOPA and PIPA Means to Me and You

The fact that I can publish this blog post is a testament to the power of the Internet as an agent of change that should not be censored, but monitored responsibly. Internet users and industry leaders helped put the brakes on two bills that were scheduled for vote on January 24, 2012 to allow everyone time to actually read what’s in those bills and take a better course of action. As a small business owner, blogger, composer, and producer of digital media that is disturbed on the Internet, the ideas behind SOPA and PIPA and their implementation are radically important to me. And they should be to you too, even if you’re just a surfer and have never published anything on the web. Read on to find out why.

Stop Ripping People Off

The gist of the SOPA/PIPA bills is to stop copyright infringement. I get that. I have music playing in 14 countries and a hard-copy book that sells globally, but has digital excerpts. I want to be paid when my music is played and my book is read. It cost me a lot of money and time to create those products and make them available. Continue reading

Giving Thanks to Those Who Share Online for Free

In the holiday spirit of gratitude, I’d like to say a big THANK YOU to all of the folks who share their knowledge and expertise online every day.

I’m thankful that I get to use WordPress for free, as well as many plugins because of the overwhelming generosity of the open-source community of developers. Because I enjoy all of the plugins I use, and more importantly, because my site depends on them, I show my gratitude by making a donation to the developer. Even a $5 dollar donation counts, and is a way to thank and encourage them. Continue reading

New Grad of BlogAid WordPress Training Marie Pujalte and The Way of the Healer

Marie PujalteI’m delighted to announce the launch of Marie Pujalte’s new site, The Way of the Healer. Marie is a recent graduate of BlogAid’s Scratch to Published WordPress Training class.

Marie specializes in Medical Qigong and CranioSacral therapies and holds Professional Certifications in Structural Integration (Ida Rolf’s work), Neuromuscular Therapy, Medical Massage, HoloEnergetics (Energy Healing developed by Dr. L. Laskow, author of “Healing With Love”), Shiatsu, Reflexology and Tuina (Chinese Massage).

She is a Certified DIPLOMATE (CST-D) in CranioSacral Therapy with the Upledger Institute in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and has used CranioSacral Therapy for more than 18 years. She also is a MASTER in Medical Qigong (MMQ) with the International Institute of Medical Qigong, Overseas College of Medical Qigong, Henan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (China) and currently enrolled in the Medical Qigong Doctorate Program. Marie is a member of the NQA (National Qigong Association) and has completed a course in Traditional Chinese Nutrition with the Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Los Angeles, California.

I could not be more proud of Marie and her new site. We really did start from scratch because this was Marie’s first site to manage on her own.

Here’s what Marie had to say about the course:

“From start to finish, MaAnna stays with you to educate you, guide you, advise you. She is generous with her vast knowledge, skills and time. A patient and marvellous teacher!. I feel blessed she was recommended to me.”

And I feel blessed to have met Marie and delighted to help more Light Workers have a powerful presence online.

What Every Site Owner Should Know

A new free resource has been made available to BlogAid News subscribers. It’s an ebook titled What Every Site Owner Should Know. This one book can save you hundreds of dollars and months of frustration by helping you to avoid common mistakes and expensive pitfalls that plague so many new site owners.

I’ve made a living as a second site designer. Most of my clients came to me after having a terrible or lackluster experience with their first site. They made costly mistakes in both time and money because of what they did not know about site ownership. Several of them had even lost their entire site and domain name because they didn’t actually own the copyright.

This book provides the basic information you need to avoid the traps and become a successful and confident owner of a site that actually works well for you. Continue reading
